Each Powell instrument has a unique character, yet all bear a family resemblance. They are made with care, to exacting tolerances. Like Powell’s flutes, their piccolo is crafted to a musical performance standard.
Handmade Custom: A Powell piccolo has a reputation for producing a strong, colorful sound that is in tune on the high notes, while still projecting on the low notes. A Powell piccolo produces a dark, lyrical tone that makes the instrument sound like an extension of the flute. The Handmade Custom is available in either traditional grenadilla, from East Africa, or kingwood, from Brazil. It features a solid sterling silver or 9K rose gold mechanism with a split E. There are three headjoint cuts to choose from: Traditional, Profiled, or Wave.
Signature: The Signature piccolo is made at the Powell workshop in Maynard, MA, USA, and is the first piccolo offered by Powell at this price point. It is a conical bore piccolo with hand undercut toneholes to enhance ease of playing and resonance. The Signature piccolo is made with the Powell scale from aged grenadilla and has a solid sterling silver mechanism and rings. Two headjoint cuts are available, Classic or Wave. A split E mechanism can be added.
