Throughout its long lifetime Buffet Crampon has developed the most complete range of clarinets, while always taking musicians', conductors' and composers' requirements into consideration. They are well known in the professional world for the R13 clarinet, and have designed many other models to cater to all types of players.
Since the company was formed in 1825, Buffet Crampon has always had a tradition of innovation. In 1994, Buffet broke tradition by creating a new line of wind instruments named after the material they are made of: Green Line. This revolutionary material, composed of ebony powder (95%) and carbon fiber (5%), considerably reduces the risk of cracking while simultaneously providing the same acoustical qualities as those of wood. Today Green Line clarinets are known worldwide and played by the most famous professional musicians.
R13: Developed in 1955 under the guidance of Robert Carrée, the R13 clarinet quickly became the legendary choice of professional musicians. Musicians are charmed by its rich and focused sound, its power in all registers and its flexibility. The R13 is suitable for all types of musician: symphony or chamber music, soloists, teachers, those in marching bands, students and amateurs. This model is available in several keys (Bb, A and Eb), and different materials (Greenline or African black wood, also known as grenadilla, with silver or nickel plated keywork). The R13 features a hand burnished bore with undercut toneholes for the best in intonation, tone and response.
Vintage: The Vintage clarinet was designed in 1996 by René Lesieux, master craftsman and responsible for instrument research and development at Buffet Crampon for over 40 years. In creating the Vintage, Buffet Crampon especially wanted to satisfy those musicians who wish to find the same features and sound they had with their 1950's R13 clarinet. Today, the Vintage has charmed many clarinettists over the world. They choose the Vintage for its fluid, focused tone, its homogeneity in all registers, and its easy response. The D/A and G#/C# tone holes have been raised. The Vintage clarinet comes with both a cylindrical and a double conical barrel. This superb instrument comes in the keys of Bb or A in the finest African black wood, also known as grenadilla. The keywork is silver plated for a long lasting finish.
Festival: Three international renowned artists Jacques Lancelot, Guy Deplus and Michel Arrignon collaborated to produce the Festival clarinet. It meets the needs of today's musicians and teachers who are faced with the daunting task of interpreting a wide repertoire of works from Mozart to Boulez. Musicians will certainly appreciate its depth of sound, which is particularly warm. The tone and precision of this instrument are in perfect harmony. The Festival belongs to the R13 bore family and has a rich powerful fluid tone. Bb and A models are available in Green Line material as well as African black wood, also known as grenadilla.
